photoblog image The Lonely Planet man

...from the young to the old....

This gentleman graces the cover of "Lonely Planet - Cambodia" and proudly sits in the sun with a copy of the book next to him, waiting for photographs to be taken of him.  I thought I'd 'age' this shot setting him in a different era and without his book.  Please don't ask me how old he is...I have no idea.

Barbara: Good to have you back Reza and fantastic news about the camera

Lovely capture but strikes me as somewhat flat smile

Barbara: yes...with my limited PS knowledge, I upped the contrast, and tried sharpening. What else can I do?

I really like this. He looks old but really well. He still has a sparkle in his eyes. I am sure he would have lots of stories to tell. I want to look like him when I get that old - not literally but to still look like you've still got life in you despite the advanced years.

What had you just said/ done to make him give you such a lovely smile?
Barbara: Thanks Nike...he was sitting very close to Orie...that may account for the smile!

Wonderful portrait ! He looks like a gentle soul with a naughty grin, wish he was my grandad.
Barbara: I do love old people's faces...hmm perhaps I should do my 98 year old great aunt next...

Did you experiment with curves and colour balance?
Barbara: yes, but experiment would be the best word to describe it!

Great portrait Barbara just not as sharp as I would like it.
Barbara: yes...it isn't that sharp is it?

Hi Barbara, love this picture, with regards to enhancing portraits I found the basic principles explianed in this link to be really useful http://www.ephotozine.com/techniques/viewtechnique.cfm?recid=116 if you care to take a look. Good luck.
