photoblog image Buckfast Abbey - Devon

Played around with the backlighting and quite like the effect of dark clouds on one side of the church as opposed to clear skys on the other.

It was rebuilt at the turn of the 19th century and is a live Benedictine monastry ...here you go...

This was built at the end of the 19th Century on the grounds of the old monastery.

That wasn't an easy shot to take light-wise - and you got that really well. I like all your Devon shots, they make me quite homesick
Barbara: Thanks Petra..I was only there for a couple of days..but it was so lovely...wish I had got a good shot of Blackpool Sands...but it's v hard to take pictures as one drives along that bit of the coast!

really like the way the Abbey stands out but I really would have liked to see more detail in the clouds. That could have been done one of two ways. Either take bracket exposures on a tripod and combine as an HDR of if you shoot RAW you could deliberately underexpose and then convert from RAW twice once processing for the detail in the sky and a second time for forground detail and then combine the two images in PS. tutorial here http://www.popphoto.com/howto/2369/photoshop-how-to-two-raws-make-a-right.html
Barbara: Hey IMM...I like the way you think I'm up to do HDRs already!...I'll archive this tutorial..till I'm ready..may take a looooong time..

i agree with the above, HDR or two differently exposed images would help this shot. very nice though
Barbara: Thanks Asiko...I'm beginning to break into a cold sweat...as I haven't got a music shot yet!

Nicely taken ..the processing makes it look like dark cloud blowing in from the side
Barbara: Thanks, that's what I thought..
